To an American c.1750 cast iron fireplace stove plate. The plate is decorated with Pennsylvania Dutch folk art motives including tulip and heart devices. The horizontal band course has abbreviations for the first verse of Psalms 106, which in Martin Luther's translation would be Psalms 107 or 118. The Translation states, "Give Thanks unto the lord for He is good and His mercy endureth for ever." Below the band course is a losenge with initials for the furnace and furnace master which have not been identified. The plate was probably made in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. A similar example is illistrated in plate #209 in Henry C. Mercer's book, "The bible in Iron"
